A busy morning in the garden!

Armed with our gloves and trowels we headed out into the gardens this morning to tackle some of the old growth and nettles. On our journey of discovery we encountered many wiggly worms and some potato jewels in the ground – what an exciting morning! Lots of filling plant pots and comparing the capacities. We persevered in getting the potatoes out of the ground and took turns to dig around them.

Curiosity

In the curiosity cube this week the children discovered some ‘shiny jewels’ from the forest floor.
Sehaj and Zachary had lots of questions and theories about where they had come from. Elsie was very insistent that the conkers had definitely been polished prior to being put in their cases!

A spidery week in Reception

The children have been discovering various webs and tiny spiders around the outside and inside area and have been fascinated by these. In line with their interests we tailored some of our learning to this, this week.

We have been exploring all sorts of printing in the Art area with fruit, vegetables and dried seed pods from our vegetable beds.

In Maths we have been comparing and sorting. Today, we explored many ‘odd’ animals from Old McDonald’s Farm and sorted and compared the quantities. Some of us were sorting by colour but other groups identified more of the same animals.

Another busy week in Reception

This week we’ve been very busy starting our Maths and Phonics. In Phonics we’ve been learning the letters ‘m’, ‘a’, ‘s’ and in Maths we have been practising our comparing and sorting skills!

“No Mrs Tatam-Hall! Those socks don’t match. Can’t you see this one’s different?” Hadiya

“Mrs Tatam-Hall you’re so silly they’ve both got pink spots but that one’s black.” Carrie

In the Art Studio we’ve been experimenting with different mediums – charcoal, pastels, using paint with rollers. We’ve been printing with apples and practising our cutting and sticking skills using tissue paper.

Outside we’ve been finding fun in all sorts of weathers. Our new stage is very exciting and has had us singing and performing.

Our first week in Reception TH

Wow! This week has flown in Reception. Every day we have welcomed 5 new children in to join us in our class and we are loving exploring our new classrooms and visiting all of the areas of provision!

“When you mix blue and red you get green…NO I meant blue and yellow!’ Shahed learning about mixing primary colours.

We’ve been getting messy with our painting aprons on both in and outside, using a range of painting tools and painting on the floor, on easels and on tables. We enjoyed using rollers outside and printing with our hands!
